A few years ago our team of accountants organised a shoe box collection for Help for Heroes – it was great fun and it created quite a buzz with so many local businesses getting involved!
As accountants in Stoke on Trent, we’d like to do something similar this Christmas to make a real difference to people less fortunate than ourselves on our doorstep, working with both Alice Charity and our local foodbank.
Alice Charity raises funds to give children from low income families a Christmas present – the only one these children will receive. Most people tend to buy for 0-9 year olds (as we did last year!) and so 10-18 years olds are often overlooked. This age group includes many teenagers who are carers for their parents or grandparents. We’re going to focus on 10-18 year olds and we’ll be buying things like:
- Board games
- Hat & scarf sets
Looking at the wider community, Stoke on Trent foodbank helps over 49,000 people – with one in three being children. We were surprised at their “urgent wish list” which includes:
- Long life fruit juice
- UHT milk
- Tinned fish
- Pasta sauce
- Instant coffee
- Instant mashed potato.
How can you help?
Mitten Clarke, and our team individually, will be donating gifts and food for these charities over the coming weeks and we wondered if you’d like to join in? If so, it would be great if you could drop in to our office anytime between now and Wednesday 6 December to donate.
We’ll be gift wrapping and boxing everything up on Wednesday 29 November and also Wednesday 6 December, when we’ll be having “open house” at our office. So if you’d like to help with this bit too, why not join us for a coffee and wrap a present or two? It will be lovely to see you!
We’ll be posting updates on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn as the #christmasdrop progresses. Do please help us if you can by donating and spreading the word as widely as possible by sharing, liking and re-tweeting. We’ll be sure to give you a big thank you on social media!
