You’ll no doubt have heard in the news that the new national living wage came into force on 1/4/16.  This gave an instant pay rise to many over 25’s who had previously been earning the national minimum wage (NMW).

Further pressure will be applied to company wage bills from October 2016 with the latest increase in the NMW.  Responding to recommendations by the Low Pay Commission the government will increase the rates as follows:

  • £6.95 21-24 year olds
  • £5.55 aged 18-20
  • £4.00 aged under 18
  • £3.40 apprentices.
