Our blog

Over the last year or so, we have written about RTI a number of times, and HMRC are still having problems with the system.

Recently, you may have received warning letters saying you have not submitted all of the returns for 2013/2014.  Many of these letters are incorrect and HMRC has gone on record admitting that the system has issued penalty notices to employers who have submitted their employer payment summaries correctly. HMRC has advised that if you have sent in all the returns for 2013/2014, you can ignore the letters which have been sent in error.  But please do check that the returns were submitted correctly before ignoring the penalty notice.

New penalties for late filing of FPS and EPS come into effect from October 2014.  If you do receive any of these new penalties in the future, they can be appealed online if you believe they have been issued in error.

There will also be some changes to your payroll system, including adding in the option to give HMRC a reason why an FPS is late.

If you have any RTI queries, or are considering out-sourcing your payroll altogether, take a look at our payroll services when you have a moment, or contact us for more information.
